The Income Tax department has made mandatory to link Aadhaar to your Permanent Account Number (PAN). If this is not linked the PAN will be deactivated. Considering the current COVID 19 condition the IT department has extended the last date for linking this to 31st March 2021 from June 30th 2020. Now it is made mandatory to mention your Aadhaar number to file income tax details.
How to link ?
It is very simple process you can do this on Income Tax e-Filing portal.
Click here to link PAN and Aadhaar, you will be directed to a form to fill in the details.

- You can fill in the PAN and Aadhaar number and Name as per Aadhaar. If you have the only year of Birth mentioned in Aadhar check the box beside it. If not ignore the box.
- Check the I agree to validate my Aadhaar details with UIDAI and enter the captcha code.
- Click on link Aadhaar. when you are done with the process, you receive a message saying your request has been sent to UIDAI for validation.

Checking the status of PAN and Aadhaar linking
If you have already submitted the details or not sure about linking PAN and Aadhaar linking you can check the status.
Click here to check the status

If your PAN and Aadhaar is successfully linked you will get a confirmation message.

Linking by sending a message
You can also link your PAN with Aadhaar by sending an SMS to either 567678 or 56161 in below format.
UIDPAN<SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><Space><10 digit PAN>
Example: if your PAN is ABCD123Z and Aadhar number is 1234 1234 1234 1234. Your SMS Should be UIDPAN 1234 1234 1234 1234 ABCD123Z
Incase of mismatch of NAME in PAN and Aadhar
After providing the details the name, gender and date of birth (year of birth) will be validated. In case if there is any slight mismatch in name registered with PAN and Aadhaar, you will get an OTP to the mobile number linked to you Aadhaar. However to get the OTP the other details namely gender and date of birth must match in both PAN and Aadhaar.
If other details mismatch too
If the gender and date of birth are also mismatching then the linking will be failed. In this case, the individual need to make necessary changes to PAN or Aadhaar.
